We are living in an age of self-sufficiency where parents, especially moms, are urged to do it all.

Becoming a parent today comes with an overwhelming weight of expectation- from how you birth, to how you feed, to how your baby sleeps (or doesn’t). What should be a tender, transformative time is often clouded by pressure, second-guessing, and quiet guilt. Even the simple, vulnerable act of asking for help can feel exposed.

The truth is, this season has never been easy, and it was never meant to be done alone.

There was a time when new mothers were surrounded. Care was instinctive. Women gathered, offering hands-on support, nourishment, and steady presence. You were held as you learned to hold your baby.

Today, families are often sent home within 24-72 hours after their baby is born, expected to find their rhythm without the village that once existed.

This is where we step in.

At IBP, our postpartum doulas and infant care specialists offer a seamless blend of time-honored support and modern expertise. We provide calm, capable care for your baby while nurturing you through recovery, rest, and the transition into parenthood.

Our experienced Indianapolis-based postpartum doulas bring their special touch to every family we serve- what we lovingly call our "secret sauce." This perfect combination of professional expertise and genuine compassion ensures both you and your baby receive the exceptional care you deserve.

What is a postpartum doula + infant care specialist, you ask?

In our world, it’s the perfect balance. With advanced training and certifications in newborn care, safe sleep, feeding, and CPR, we provide exceptional care for your baby- while also offering equally informed, intuitive support for your recovery and well-being.

The Process

Let's break it down!

  • We start with an initial welcome/intake phone call. This is where we learn about your specific needs and chat about the type of care you're looking for- overnights or daytime- and how long you hope to have care.

  • Together we’ll decide what works best for you:

OVERNIGHTS: 10 hour shifts. We offer overnight care on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 9pm-7am.

DAYTIME: Usually 4-5 hour shifts. We offer daytime care on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday mornings & afternoons, and occasionally on Friday mornings.

  • IBP offers four packages: 50 hours, 100 hours, 250 hours & 450 hours

  • Once you decide on which package works best for your family, and after the initial phone call with the office, we will confirm our availability before sending our proposal. Clients have the option of paying off in full up front, or paying the retainer (applied to the back half of care) followed by and weekly payments after care begins. After the contract is signed, invoice is paid, and questionnaire is completed, your postpartum care is locked in with us!

  • You will meet your doula towards the end of your pregnancy. She will connect with you soon after the introductory email is sent to set up a home visit before your baby arrives.

  • You'll contact your doula directly sharing the exciting news that your baby is here! Postpartum care will begin on an agreed upon date between you and your doula.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who hires us?

Parents seeking support they can truly trust. Postpartum doulas bridge the gap between highly skilled in-home clinical nursing care and the warmth of a nurturing nanny. At IBP, families are held with expert, steady guidance and thoughtful, in-home support- creating a more restful, supported beginning to life with their baby. From recovery to rhythm, you’ll have an experienced professional by your side every step of the way.

When will postpartum care start?

That’s entirely up to you. Most of the time, we’re beginning care in those tender first days/nights. Others wish to wait a bit longer when the initial haze of new parenthood softens, and the weight of exhaustion becomes more apparent. We highly recommend starting within the first two weeks after your baby is born.

how long will I HAVE POSTPARTUM DOULA SUPPORT?

Whether you’re seeking a few weeks to find your rhythm or a more sustained presence over the months ahead, we meet you where you are. On average, we work with families for 3 months, allowing for consistent support as both baby and parents settle into a more predictable rhythm.

How long are the shifts?

Nighttime care is designed to bring true rest back into your home. We offer support up to five nights per week, 10-hour shifts each. This creates a generous window for much-needed sleep, gentle parental support, and attentive care for your baby throughout the night.

Daytime care is offered up to five days per week in 5-hour shifts, providing a calm, steady presence as you recover, settle in, and grow more confident in your rhythm as a family.

Can any package be used for daytime and overnight care?

To ensure the highest level of consistency and care, we reserve each family’s support for either daytime or overnight care. Our 50-hour package is designed for daytime support, while our 100-hour, 250-hour, and 450-hour packages are dedicated to overnight care.

The heart of our postpartum care is nighttime. If availability allows, a blend of both daytime and overnight postpartum support may be arranged with advanced booking, offering a more tailored and seamless experience.

Will I get to meet my doula(s)?

That’s our goal! At IBP, you will be expertly matched with your primary doula no later than 36 weeks, ensuring a seamless and supported transition into postpartum care. From there, she will typically schedule a prenatal home visit close to your due date to connect in person, understand your preferences, and prepare for your baby’s arrival.

In some cases, and when availability allows, we are hired after baby’s arrival. When that happens, we move quickly to get everything in place as soon as possible, so your postpartum support can begin without delay.

Can you help me with feeding concerns?

Absolutely. Feeding a baby may seem simple, but in reality, it’s often one of the most challenging parts of early parenthood, no matter how many children you’ve had or how you choose to feed.

We bring deep experience, gentle guidance, and trusted access to leading IBCLC support in Central Indiana, offering you informed, fast, and compassionate care right when you need it most.

We warmly support breastfeeding, formula feeding, pumping, SNS, tube feeding, and any combination that feels right for your family- because there is no one “right” way, only what works best for you and your baby.

DO YOU CARE FOR PREEMIES, NICU GRADS, AND/OR MULTIPLES?

You bet! For NICU graduates and premature babies, we offer a gentle transition home, providing skilled and attentive care in the comfort of your own space, without the clinical feel. Our doulas bring one focus: safe, experienced, and professional postpartum support. We follow your baby’s established feeding and sleep plans closely, while helping your family settle into life at home with confidence and ease. We give you a break from the highly respected medical world, and help you adjust to caring for your baby realistically…in your own home.

Many of our doulas also have extensive experience supporting twins and multiples.

Will I still bond with my baby with overnight postpartum doula support?

Well, you are not alone if this is a concern. We promise to promote bonding just the way you like it. You choose how your baby's night feedings will go. When a feeding wraps up- however that looks- we will gently attend to your baby’s diapering and comfort needs while you are drifting off to sleep in your own cozy bed. Then, when your baby is ready for their next feeding, you will feel refreshed and ready to go.

If baby is formula or bottle fed, then you can choose to sleep all night while your doula handles feedings, or you can wake up for feedings. Totally up to you! We highly recommend sleeping while we’re there so you can tackle your day rested. Our clients say over and over again how sleep helps promote bonding during the day.
